Flowing like a river across a field that’s rough and furrowed Moving through corridors as graceful as a dream Streaming over meadows like a hundred silver horses But lost among the people. You’re a gem no one has seen Uncertain dancer, you know what you can be Uncertain dancer, why your uncertainty? Crowded in a corner in a room of nameless faces Waiting for a chance for you to spread your newfound wings Loving all the wonder of a world so newly opened Grateful for the times when you can lift your voice and sing

Originally composed for the Paradox quartet. A mini-epic inspired by the post-apocalyptic novel Malevil, by Robert Merle. (I was big on the whole post-apocalyptic thing in those days) The book told the story of a group of people who survived a nuclear holocaust inside the wine cellar of a medieval castle in France, and how a new society was rebuilt in the aftermath. The lyrics are written from the perspective of the descendants of the characters in the book. At home when when we need protection from the night At peace when there’s no one left to fight Stone wall strong against the purifying fire of a world, robbed of all it’s life With no word of warning, no hint of what’s to come the airborne warbird sang its song In the city’s dark, the listeners were few Trapped like rats, they wouldn’t hold out long In the feudal stone, in the castle’s deepest hold they rode out the all consuming flame In despair they determined they’d begun again Though they knew it would never be the same In time they discovered that they weren’t the only ones Survivors of the harmony of death And in the Spring, when the buds all reappeared Their future was insured. Their course was set. Our future race is built out of their strength Their conviction and the sacrifice they made Years have gone by and stories that they’ve shared have ensured that we are here to stay When the warbirds sing as forevermore they will the image of the flames is now recalled in the hearts of those who never knew before of the world of those who survived inside these walls

Shadowdance 03:20
Dance with your shadow Laugh at your fear I don’t feel sorry for those who aren’t here Come to conclusions After I’m through I know I’d feel different If I were you When I’m down and closing in Will you stand by me as a friend? Or will you turn and walk away? What it is, who can say? Who can say what is to be ’til it’s plain for all to see? Throw the dice and take a chance and if you catch your shadow dance When I’m down and closing in Will you stand by me as a friend? Or will you turn and walk away? What it is, who can say?

Him: Joining the ranks of endangered souls Conversing with time, defining his role Feeling the pain of unworthiness Counting the minutes until his death When came to be a sound unknown From distant chambers and catacombs A temptress cry to lead him on Seeking a state he’s never known before In his life Her: Come on in, I’m glad you have arrived Let’s begin, we haven’t too much time … Now you hopeless dreamer I’ve got you trapped under my spell You’ll join the other dreamers In your fiery hell Do not hate me, for yours is the hate of a million wasted lives Do not fear me for the fear you feel is trapped inside my eyes! My eyes! Him: Wrapped up in this silver web I call to vent my pain Crying out for mercy, I’m a fool upon the stage Pelted by the heartless mob, I tug ay my restraints When a graceful dancer glides up and probes inside my brain Free me I cry aloud and yet she doesn’t hear Take my heart, take my mind, I’m past the point of fear Then my silver threads dissolve and she leads me to her room She sings of love and other things, and death that comes too soon Go on and take me if you will, a promise has been made But she shakes her head and smiles at me. “No” was all she said … Ring the bells of beauty now and cast aside the sword The jester is alone again, perhaps forever more!

Shelter 03:02
The night is full of victims The sky is filled with blood and the pre-fab pleasure salesmen prey on survivors of the flood You and I we’ve been there and yet we still don’t know how we survived the carnage how far we have to go We need shelter to keep away the night We need shelter to keep away the night Flaming colors rise up to greet the dying sun Who will stay the tempest? You know we are the ones We build shelter to keep away the night We build shelter to keep away the night Who can foresee the outcome, the welcome days of rest? This song must serve as warning, a call to arms at best We need shelter to keep away the night We build shelter to keep away the night You and I we’ve been there and yet we still don’t know how we survived the carnage How far we have to go

As I walk through the corridors of war I can see that tranquility can’t exist anymore Where’s the way I used to live before she went away? Where’s the morning ocean queen that lives in the bay? Well I feel as though I’m looking at the world through dirty glass And I have no way to answer all of the questions you ask All the stars are melting and the moon is locked in ice And I keep on coming up snake eyes when I throw the dice And it’s working inside of my brain No feelings seem to remain Nowhere left to go but insane Orange sunshine lay me to sleep tonight and I’m driven from my head The morning brings a new surrounding, you wishing I were dead Well I’ve seen, smelled, heard, and felt the greed, hate, and sin And I’ve tossed away all hope of love that lay so deep within As I lay myself to sleep tonight on a pillow made of stone The morning that awakens me will never, ever come Well I feel as though I’m looking at the world through dirty glass And I have no way to answer all of the questions you ask All the stars are melting and the moon is locked in ice And I keep on coming up snake eyes when I throw the dice And it’s working inside of my brain Only feelings seem to remain The rest of me’s going insane Orange sunshine lay me to sleep tonight and I’m driven from my head The morning brings a new surrounding, you finding that I’m dead

about

The End of Rodney Continuum

Part 1: The Prog Years - Paradox Lost

These songs span a period from roughly 1974 - when I was a senior in high-school - through 1982, when I made a significant shift in my musical direction. During that period, I was in several bands - Cerebrus (yes, we spelled it that way), Flowstone, Oz, DGM, Redshift, Paradox (trio and quartet), and Call My Lawyer. The one thing all of the bands had in common was that at least one of 3 people were in these bands with me - David Parr (guitar and vocals), Joe Douglas (bass and vocals), and Phillip Hart (drums). Other players came in and out of the mix - Curtis McGuirt, Duane Rice, Russell Cox, Danny Montgomery, Chris Petschulat, Alex Griffin, Grey Griffin, Bryan Talbot - but at least two of our core quartet were always part of the mix.

About the Recording Process
Almost everything was played by AWG, except for the vocals, and some of the guitar and percussion parts. In almost every case, the drums, bass, and guitar were based as closely as possible on parts created by the original players. Curtis’ vocals were recorded on a cassette porta-studio in the mid 80s, and were rescued and restored to fit the newly recorded music tracks. Ralph’s and Melissa’s vocals were recorded in my studio from 2020-2022. Kris’s vocals were recorded and engineered by Nathan Brown. Rob Dwyer recorded his guitar parts at his home studio, and
Phillip Hart recorded his percussion track in my studio circa 2010.
